If you’re looking for nutritional supplements online, you can find dozens of sites that will sell you nearly any imaginable nutritional product.

But this isn’t one of those sites.

My recommendations are for specific nutritional supplements for people in specific situations.  The problem is, since I’ve never spoken with you or examined you to establish a doctor-patient relationship, how do I know that any of these recommendations apply to your situation?

I don’t know if they do or not.

Instead, I have to trust that you’re able to take responsibility for your own health decisions and use any nutritional supplements appropriately.

That’s why I don’t let just anyone purchase nutritional supplements on this site.  You have to demonstrate a certain minimal level of nutrition smarts and the willingness to take personal responsibility for your own health.

I’ve devised a nutrition quiz.  You have to take my test and correctly answer at least 8 of the 11 true or false questions.

Decide on your answer to each of these 11 questions.  Send your answers back to me in the form of an e-mail.  You can just include a sequence of the numbers 1 through 11 with a T or an F after each one.

I’ll review your responses and if you pass, I’ll send you back your personal access code.  That will allow you to purchase any of the recommended products directly from this site.

By the way, if you flunk the first time, you get a second chance.

Okay?  Then sharpen your #2 pencils…….

1.   T    F    One of the reasons that wild-caught fish is recommended as part of a healthy diet is that it’s high in omega-6 fatty acids.

2.   T    F    The three major types of macronutrient in the human diet are fats, proteins, and carbohydrates.

3.   T    F    Even though Dr. Lavine has never examined me and knows little about my individual health status, I can rely on his advice as a substitute for the advice of my personal physician.

4.   T    F    Sea vegetables are a good source of iron.

5.   T    F    Scientific research convincingly demonstrates that women taking calcium supplements improve their bone density.

6.   T    F    Normally, there are hundreds or even thousands of different species of bacteria residing in the human gut.

7.   T    F    The main molecule that a cell taps for its energy needs is glucose.

8.   T    F    In the “Mediterranean diet,” which has been proposed as a healthy way to eat, animal foods are the primary source of fat.

9.   T    F    Vitamin B12 is found almost exclusively in animal foods; some nutritionists are concerned that those who eat a vegan diet may be at risk of B12 deficiency.

10. T    F    By taking the supplements recommended by Dr. Lavine, I can confidently stop taking the medications prescribed by my doctor.

11. T    F    Those who have trouble digesting milk because they’re lactose intolerant can often sidestep their problem by taking proteases (enzymes that break down proteins) when they consume dairy products.
